Custom POS software development for Canadian retailers

We build point of sale systems around how your store actually sells: checkout, stock across locations, special orders and deposits, delivery booking, financing and the reports your office needs. We built the POS a Canadian furniture retailer with about $10M in annual sales now uses every day.

Custom POS for a Canadian Furniture Retailer

    Problem:
A furniture sale runs past the counter: special orders, deposits, deliveries, financing and commission all hang off it.
    What we built:
We built one POS for sales and multi-location stock, special orders, deposits and layaway, delivery booking with routes and drivers, financing and split payments on integrated card terminals, and sales, commission and accounting reports.
    Result:
All staff use it every day, checkout and back-office work are faster, and it replaced the store's previous system, Lightspeed.

    Spliffs

    Problem:
Selling a regulated product online meant strict age and compliance rules at every step.
    What we built:
We built age verification, inventory management, delivery scheduling, and compliance reporting into the checkout.
    Result:
The store sells online while staying inside the rules it has to follow.

    Aegis Beaute

    Problem:
A beauty brand wanted a store that felt as refined as its products.
    What we built:
We built product customization, subscription boxes, virtual try-on, and an influencer partner portal.
    Result:
Shoppers personalize orders and subscribe, and the brand grows through its partners.

How a custom POS project runs

    1. 1

      Fixed quote within 24 hours

Send the form with a few lines about the project. Within 24 hours of receiving it (one business day) you get either a fixed written quote or a short list of questions we need answered first. A quote states the scope, the price in CAD, the timeline and what is not included.

    2. 2

      Map how you sell

We walk through a real sale from the counter to delivery and payment, and agree what the first release must do.

    3. 3

      Build in weekly cycles

Each week ends with a working version your staff can try on real products.

    4. 4

      Migrate and run in parallel

We move products, customers and open orders from your current POS and run both until the numbers match.

    5. 5

      Train, launch, support

Staff training, switch-over, and an optional support plan. Later phases are quoted separately.

Questions people ask before hiring us

How much does custom POS software cost in Canada?

At FourCents a custom POS is priced as custom business software: typically $10,000 to $40,000 CAD. A first version of a POS web app is $8,000 to $15,000, and complex systems above $40,000 are quoted individually. You get a fixed written quote after scoping.

When is a custom POS worth it over Square, Shopify POS or Lightspeed?

Stay on an off-the-shelf POS while it fits how you sell. A custom POS is worth pricing when staff fill gaps by hand every day, for example special orders, deposits, deliveries, financing or commission tracked outside the POS, or when you pay for several add-ons that still do not talk to each other. Our free build vs buy calculator shows the payback for your numbers.

Can you move our data from our current POS?

Usually, yes. Most POS products export products, customers and orders. We map that data into the new system, reconcile totals, and run both systems side by side before the switch.

Which card terminals and processors can it use?

We integrate with your payment processor through its published integration, so the terminals depend on the processor. We confirm this during scoping, before the quote is fixed.

Can it sync with our accounting software?

Yes. We connect through the accounting product's published interface. The quote names the system and which records sync.

    Do I own the code?

Yes. You receive the full source code and documentation, with no licence fee to us and no lock-in.

Have you built a POS before?

Yes. Our case study describes a custom POS we built for a Canadian furniture retailer with about $10M in annual sales. It replaced Lightspeed and is used by all staff every day.
